My First Gym Session in 4.5 Months

Hello beautiful people of the world, I hope you are all doing amazing this today. Let’s talk!

So this week I went to the gym for the first time in 4.5 months. I actually can’t believe it’s even been that long. It still boggles my mind sometimes. Nonetheless, I am so thankful for so much and I’m super thankful that gyms have finally begun to reopen again.

Last week when I received an email that the gyms in my area will be reopening in a couple of days, I wasn’t sure what to think. Do I go? Or do I stick to home workouts and protect myself. Well as you can see I chose the latter. It’s been way too long and I needed to be back in a place where I can truly be great.

How It Works

The gym I go to is GoodLife and they have locations all across Canada. I’m not sure how other gyms are currently operating, but members of GoodLife need to book a workout appointment in order to attend. The reason why this is being done is to avoid overcrowding and to keep the bodies in the building to a minimum.

How To Book And Appointment

Members can book a workout either on the computer or through the app. I prefer to book through the computer since the app has been acting weird for me. Though, I do check it to confirm my booked workouts.

Once logged into the member portal, members would click on “book” or “book now” on the main menu. Afterward, members would select whether they would like to book an individual workout or a class. They would then select a time slot for a class or workout and then finalize their booking.

For any curious, I chose to take a Body Bump class.

First Day Back

When this past Wednesday morning arrived, I was excited and nervous. I could hardly contain it. Excited because it’s been forever and nervous because I didn’t know what to expect.

As I arrived at the gym, I was met by a Greeter outside the front doors. Their job was to make sure that we were attending our scheduled time slot. Once inside, I scanned my key tag and went straight to the room the class was being run.

GoodLife suggests members come to the gym fully dressed and ready to workout with filled water bottles. Members are also allowed to take off their masks while engaged in physical activity.

When I arrived in the room, a majority of the equipment had already been set up, separated two feet apart. I can’t recall the number of spots that were available, but only seven of us showed up including the teacher.

How Was The Class

The class was so amazing! It was everything I have been missing for the last several months. I made sure to not overdo it with the weights as it’s been quite a while. I’ll definitely be increasing my weight next time! Even with the decrease from my regular weights, it’s been three days and I hurt so good!

As members only have an hour to get in their workouts, I saw employees walking around the gym with signs to let attendants know they had 15 minutes left to complete their workouts.

At the end of the class, we were told not to put away any equipment, as someone would be coming in to clean everything and put them away. I could definitely get used to this luxury. So by the end of the class, I grabbed my bag, thanked the teacher, and went on my way.

Once all members have left the gym from a scheduled time slot, the gym is closed for 30 minutes to be cleaned and sanitized.

Overall, I had an amazing experience. I am please with how clean the gym was and how they are handing everything to keep everyone as safe as possible.

Will I Be Returning?

Yes! In fact, I will be returning next week, perhaps a couple of times this time around. I’m extremely hopeful in better days.

Some questions for you if you have made it this far: Did you attend the gym prior to the pandemic? If so, have you gone back to the gym yet or do you plan on going back? It must have felt really good to get back into an environment where everyone was exercising along with you. Sometimes we can underestimate how powerful it is to have other people around us working out.

Truly, there is definitely a power to it.

I decided that I won’t go back in a while but I’m so unmotivated 🙁

I completely understand, safety first!! I do understand though, it’s so easy to be unmotivated, but you can do it!!

Awesome!! It’s good that gyms are finally reopening giving people that much needed outlet. I’ve recently started bike riding because the lack of motivation to workout at home was causing me to not work out at all. I’ll definitely have to check out this app! 🙂

Yes! I’m glad you found a way to keep working out. I honestly enjoy many different types of workouts. I’m also trying to get myself a bike, because bike rides are so liberating!!! <3

First of all, COVID feels like it’s been here for years but at the same time it doesn’t, but the important part is that you got to finally get back to the gym. Also, I love that GoodLife is doing their own thorough sanitization.
